A double layer of hand textured Argentium sterling silver surrounds this unique Green Imperial Jasper cabochon. To make the frog and flower I have used precious metal clay and they are 99.9% silver in purity. The emerald is a natural cabochon.

Imperial Jasper is considered to be one of the five fine jaspers. Imperial Jasper is found about 50 miles northwest of Guadalajara, Mexico on the east side of a steep canyon. This canyon lies north of the small town of San Cristobal and its steep slopes are covered with dense vegetation.

Emeralds in antiquity were mined in Ancient Egypt at locations on Mount Smaragdus since 1500 BC, and India and Austria since at least the 14th century AD. The Egyptian mines were exploited on an industrial scale by the Roman and Byzantine Empires, and later by Islamic conquerors. Mining in Egypt ceased with the discovery of the Colombian deposits. Today, only ruins remain in Egypt.
